CERAMIC VESSELS
Ceramic vessels have been used for centuries to hold and protect an immense amount of things, especially the treasured ashes of our loved ones.
Celebrating the rituals and small moments of the everyday. We use ceramics in our homes during the mundane and celebratory moments, the idea behind creating these pieces will be to amplify the beauty of those moments more.
MMXXV Core Collection
This is the core collection of ceramic vessels from 2025. Each vessel is unique, shaped intuitively through a quiet collaboration between my hands and the clay, rather than in a production capacity to make carbon copies, and created to elevate your daily rituals, transforming ordinary moments into meaningful experiences that inspire mindfulness and appreciation.
Each of my vessels is signed with my initials CMR and the year of creation in Roman numerals, such as MMXXV for 2025.
Coloured Clay Collection
Coloured Clay Collection is an experiment of testing other methods of adding colour to my ceramic work outside of glazes. This particular experiment consisted of adding mason stains directly to a white stoneware body before throwing, as well as adding white back in to create a marbling.
Interestingly, the oatmeal colour was initially a deep red stain. However, the firings shifted it in another direction, even though I followed the same recipe I used for the other colours.
Wild Clay Experiment
Wild Clay is another experiment of addition to the clay body. This time I added wild clay to the stoneware body like I did with the mason stains. This wild clay is from my time at Casa Julfa in France. This experimented was inspired by the fact that some wild clay is not strong or plastic enough to be a body clay on its own, but I still recognised a benefit to use this clay, as it represents a time and a place, and honours the most natural form of ceramics.
Terracotta Collection
The rich orange clay of terracotta is a beautiful clay that reminds me of warmer and sunnier days. These vessels are created to be versatile in how you can use them in your homes. I envisage them being used as vases for fresh or dried flowers, plant pots for succulents, for cups of tea or a small flat white or espresso, for small dishes for snacks like olives or nuts, and to hold jewellery when you are being messy or creative.
Grounded Vessels Collection
Grounded Vessels is a collection of hand-built organically-formed vessels, inspired by my time in France at Casa Julfa in October 2023, where I was reintroduced to hand-building and introduced to an ancestral method of making involving pinching and coiling. This collection is about celebrating the clay, showing the handmade, and the grounding nature of working with this medium.
Wintering Collection
Wintering is a collection of thrown ceramics that I completed in winter 2023 to 2024. The word ‘wintering’ is about slowing down and resting. It reflects the act of hibernation which other animals do during winter. There is a variety of forms within this collection - ranging from cups for tea or a small coffee to little dishes for trinkets or spices, little plant pots to vases.
